Difficult subject matter to read about。 It bothers me to much to read about an infant with a head trauma。 Could not get into the story。

It was entirely too slow for my liking。 I listened to it on the way back and forth from work and found quite often I had zoned out。 I probably missed half of the plot just zoning out。 It only gets interesting toward the end。

Jess is a stay-at-home mother of three。 Many see her as the perfect mother and a role model。 Liz admires the mother Jess has become after being friends for a decade。 Then everything Liz knows is shattered when Jess's baby, Betsey, is admitted to the hospital with a head injury。 Jess offers vague reasons behind Betsey's accident。I thought the book was going in a different direction based on the cover of the book。 I felt like the book was a bit slow。 I didn't think that the book needed to be that Jess is a stay-at-home mother of three。 Many see her as the perfect mother and a role model。 Liz admires the mother Jess has become after being friends for a decade。 Then everything Liz knows is shattered when Jess's baby, Betsey, is admitted to the hospital with a head injury。 Jess offers vague reasons behind Betsey's accident。I thought the book was going in a different direction based on the cover of the book。 I felt like the book was a bit slow。 I didn't think that the book needed to be that long。 I am not sure why this was considered a thriller as the only twist was at the very end。 。。。more

3。5 starsThis read would definitely to be for everyone。 Gave some great insight into postpartum mental illness。 Good twist but took a long time to really come through。

This was a really good suspense novel it had me hooked from the first page , however I felt that there were a lot of characters that were unnecessary to the story line。

This is very well-written and beautifully evokes human relationships, moral judgements and guilt。 I'm not totally convinced by the plot and especially the second resolution。 My main issue is that my copy is marketed as a thriller and it really isn't anything of the kind。 This is very well-written and beautifully evokes human relationships, moral judgements and guilt。 I'm not totally convinced by the plot and especially the second resolution。 My main issue is that my copy is marketed as a thriller and it really isn't anything of the kind。 。。。more

I received a free copy of Little Disasters by Sarah Vaughan from NetGalley for my honest review。A gripping and thought provoking read full of emotion。Liz, a pediatrician is called into the ER to help with a baby who was brought in with a skull fracture。 Liz is shocked to find out that it is her friend, Jess's baby。 As the baby's doctor, Liz has a duty to report suspicious injuries。 Something just isn't right and so an investigation is prompted。 It's been a while since Jess and Liz have hung out I received a free copy of Little Disasters by Sarah Vaughan from NetGalley for my honest review。A gripping and thought provoking read full of emotion。Liz, a pediatrician is called into the ER to help with a baby who was brought in with a skull fracture。 Liz is shocked to find out that it is her friend, Jess's baby。 As the baby's doctor, Liz has a duty to report suspicious injuries。 Something just isn't right and so an investigation is prompted。 It's been a while since Jess and Liz have hung out together。 Jess just doesn't seem like her normal self。 Liz knows something is wrong and that Jess is hiding something but doesn't know what。 The investigation seems to be pointing towards Jess for causing the injury。 Will Liz be able to help Jess before it is too late and they take her children from her? 。。。more

Wish we could give half stars because this book is a little better than 4, but less than 5。This was a quick paced book that shines a light on how complicated, and painful post natal depression is, and how destructive it can be。It's also about healing, forgiveness, friendship, and family。Really enjoyed it。⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wish we could give half stars because this book is a little better than 4, but less than 5。This was a quick paced book that shines a light on how complicated, and painful post natal depression is, and how destructive it can be。It's also about healing, forgiveness, friendship, and family。Really enjoyed it。⭐⭐⭐⭐ 。。。more

When Jess, a loving mother of three brings her baby into the A&E department, her good friend Liz is the doctor on call that evening。 But what happens next, no one expects and Liz is forced to make a difficult decision that could have major implications for everyone involved。Little Disasters is not only a medical thriller, but it covers the important topic of mental health。 Especially in parents and mothers。 You don’t have to have children to know that it can be extremely challenging at times。 Th When Jess, a loving mother of three brings her baby into the A&E department, her good friend Liz is the doctor on call that evening。 But what happens next, no one expects and Liz is forced to make a difficult decision that could have major implications for everyone involved。Little Disasters is not only a medical thriller, but it covers the important topic of mental health。 Especially in parents and mothers。 You don’t have to have children to know that it can be extremely challenging at times。 This book doesn’t sugarcoat parenthood。 It shows you both the highs and very lows that a lot of parents may experience。 We also get an idea of the ethical dilemmas doctors can face when it comes to friends and family and how certain boundaries can be pushed。I enjoyed that it was told from the different perspectives of not only Liz and Jess, but also some of the other characters as well which gave the story more of an all rounded feeling and not just told from two perspectives。 With mental health being such an important topic in this book, it also gives you insights into the internal struggles that this with mental health illness face every day which is hard enough, but add a new baby into the mix… you can only imagine how difficult this must be。My heart went out to Jess in this book, everyone thinks she is this perfect mother, always calm, always knowing what to do, but no one realizes how much she is actually struggling。 But Liz also has her own personal issues she has to deal with, including a very strained relationship with her own mother which we get a look at later in the story。I loved that they showed the different styles of parenting and parenting from the perspectives of different people as well。 I will admit that there was a twist, but it didn’t completely shock me。 However, I still really enjoyed the story。 I felt that it was not completely a thriller for me and I agree that it can be categorized more as domestic fiction。Although this book focuses a lot on parenting as well, you don’t need to be a parent to be able to connect with the characters and to be drawn into the story。 I haven’t read any other books by Sarah Vaughan, but now I will definitely be checking them out!Disclaimer: I was sent this free copy for review by Jonathan Ball Publishers。 This does not influence my review or rating in any way。 All views and opinions expressed are my own。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was going to give this 3 stars because it seemed to be heading in the direction of an obvious twist, but then the author brought an even bigger twist that I didn't see coming。 She even talked about how she didn't want to end with an obvious twist in an interview, so she changed the ending。 Kudos to her。 I was going to give this 3 stars because it seemed to be heading in the direction of an obvious twist, but then the author brought an even bigger twist that I didn't see coming。 She even talked about how she didn't want to end with an obvious twist in an interview, so she changed the ending。 Kudos to her。 。。。more

It started out good, intriguing and captivating。 By half of the book, it became slow and repetitive。 Besides, I didn't like the coincidence of Liz's mother's secret。 Not enough thriller as promised。 It started out good, intriguing and captivating。 By half of the book, it became slow and repetitive。 Besides, I didn't like the coincidence of Liz's mother's secret。 Not enough thriller as promised。 。。。more

"Little Disasters" wasn't a terrible book。 In fact, it addressed postpartum depression in a way I thought was well done。But。I think it tried too hard to create twists in the narrative, trying to throw off the reader - which I usually love but found a little annoying during the last part of the novel。Still, it was a good read。You can expect nappies, screaming children, asshole doctors, asshole friends, wine, more screaming children and despair。 Like most days。 "Little Disasters" wasn't a terrible book。 In fact, it addressed postpartum depression in a way I thought was well done。But。I think it tried too hard to create twists in the narrative, trying to throw off the reader - which I usually love but found a little annoying during the last part of the novel。Still, it was a good read。You can expect nappies, screaming children, asshole doctors, asshole friends, wine, more screaming children and despair。 Like most days。 。。。more

Jess is a mother of three, struggling to keep her life together。 On the outside, everything seems fine。 But on the inside, she is battling depression and trying her best not to have a breakdown on a daily basis。Liz, her best friend, has been putting Jess to the side after Jess's third baby, Betsey, was born ten months ago and Liz's career as a nurse became more demanding。 But when Jess shows up at the hospital with Betsey one night, and Liz notices Betsey has some head trauma, Liz starts to ques Jess is a mother of three, struggling to keep her life together。 On the outside, everything seems fine。 But on the inside, she is battling depression and trying her best not to have a breakdown on a daily basis。Liz, her best friend, has been putting Jess to the side after Jess's third baby, Betsey, was born ten months ago and Liz's career as a nurse became more demanding。 But when Jess shows up at the hospital with Betsey one night, and Liz notices Betsey has some head trauma, Liz starts to question how her friend is actually doing since the newest addition to their family。 And, was Liz the one who hurt Betsey, or was it someone else? Was it an accident, or was it on purpose? I really liked the storyline of this book。 It grabbed me from the beginning and had me worried about Jess and hoping that Liz could figure out what really happened to Betsey。 And of course, had me hoping that Betsey would be okay。 I thought Vaughan captured the struggles of motherhood perfectly。 As a mother myself, I could definitely relate to the feelings of helplessness, exhaustion, trying to hold everything together, and not have a mental breakdown。 Some days are more taxing than others and it takes everything you have to keep it together。 As much as I liked this story, I thought it had a lot of repetitive parts。 I don't necessarily think the book was too long, but I do think there were some chapters that could have been either scaled down or removed completely because it just felt like it was repeating what had already been said at least once before。 Maybe that was intentional to make the reader think the story was going one way instead of another, but honestly, I had a pretty good inkling what happened and the repetition didn't throw me off, just slowed me down with trying to finish the book。 Overall, I enjoyed this book。 I liked Vaughan's writing style and the story held my attention for the most part。 Some moments were intense and I had to know what happened next。 I liked that the story was also told from alternate points of view, so there were multiple narrators, not just one。 I don't know that I would consider this book a thriller, maybe more of a family drama。 But it was worth the read and it will be one that sticks with me for a long time。 4 stars! 。。。more

I liked this book although at times I felt it dragged on a little bit。 The subject of being a full time mom spoke to me。 It is a difficult job most of the time。 Every mom handles it in their own way depending on their situation and how much support they get。

Not really a thriller, but an interesting book about post-partum psychosis/post-partum OCD。 Also a book about jealousy, guilt and ethics。 I liked the multiple viewpoints and the authenticity of the characters decisions。 Nursery rhyme challenge-little

Four stars。 Good book。 I had a hard time transitioning from the forward/first chapter into the rest of the book。 I also kept on losing track of the dates at the beginning of each chapter -- is this before or is this now?

I took this out of the library because I thought it was going to be a quick thriller or mystery。 But it wasn't really。 I suppose it was supposed to be a character driven book, but most of the characters were not explored that well。 Jess, one of the main characters, should have had more depth given the story line。 The symmetry between the current plot and some of the characters' past was too pat。 But I did read all the way to the end because I wanted to know what happened。 It wasn't as dramatic a I took this out of the library because I thought it was going to be a quick thriller or mystery。 But it wasn't really。 I suppose it was supposed to be a character driven book, but most of the characters were not explored that well。 Jess, one of the main characters, should have had more depth given the story line。 The symmetry between the current plot and some of the characters' past was too pat。 But I did read all the way to the end because I wanted to know what happened。 It wasn't as dramatic as the lead up made it sound it would be。 One of the characters definitely was afflicted by OCD。 At first, I was afraid that the author was going to misrepresent that illness, but she actually did a good job depicting what it is like and what the thought processes can be of someone who has it。 (view spoiler)[ At first I was afraid that Jess was the one who did hurt Betsey, and with OCD people visualize themselves doing all these awful things, but they don't actually do them。 So I was relieved when the story line started to indicate that Jess wasn't the one who hurt the baby。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

I thought this book was going to be a thriller but to my delight it wasn't (the Swedish cover featured a eery little doll left in a stroller)。 There is a mystery but this isn't a scary book。 I felt the mom was well described and you feel for her。 However I could have done without the constant cliff hangers at the end of the chapters。 A nice read that made me want to read more from the author。 I thought this book was going to be a thriller but to my delight it wasn't (the Swedish cover featured a eery little doll left in a stroller)。 There is a mystery but this isn't a scary book。 I felt the mom was well described and you feel for her。 However I could have done without the constant cliff hangers at the end of the chapters。 A nice read that made me want to read more from the author。 。。。more

This book was so good 😊!! It had all the things I love in thrillers。 Nice pacing, pot twist, character development, not all the characters were like-able, disturbing topics, made me a bit sad, anxious, upset。I do think this wouldHave scared me more though if I were a mother。 Especially a mother struggling with Postpartum depression。 -Junie B。

Intrigue très bien menée qui met en lumière la violence infantile et les difficultés de la maternité。 Livre un peu glaçant à certains passages pour une jeune maman。 J’ai adoré。

I thought this book started off well。 The story held my interest and I was keen to find out where it was going。 Unfortunately, in my opinion, about two thirds into the story I thought it fell flat and to be honest I only kept reading to the end hoping there would be a twist I never saw coming。 Unfortunately not for me。

Elizabeth

It was ok- on the plodding along, longish side but a good twist at the end。
